Sound of Toy Story 3

Watched Toy Story 3 recently. It’s a really fun movie. Here’s a little video on the making of the sound.

You can also find an interesting read on how Pixar hides easter eggs – little references of other films -  in their films here.

Also, updated the work page to include my latest work, Sandcastle! If you’ve yet to see it, here’s the official trailer:

Just thought I should share this great piece of news before I get back to work!

The film I’ve been working on is selected for Cannes Film Festival 2010 Critics’ Week lineup

Whoop whoop!

Congratulations Junfeng and the rest of the team!

Ok, back to work.

Let’s make pink dot again!

Last year on 16 May 2009, I had the privilege of helping to make Pink Dot happen. More than 2500 people decked out in pink and came together to show their support for the freedom to love.

This year, it’s happening again on

15 MAY 2010, 5pm

SAME PLACE, Hong Lim Park

SAME DRESS CODE, Anything Pink!

That’s me as last year’s speakers IC.

I brought Sir and Lady Pink Dot along last year. I don’t know where they are now, but I’m sure they’re in safe hands and I hope to see them at the event! If you would like your own pink dot friends too, find out how to make one (or a few) here!

And if the photos aren’t enough to convince you to be part of this fun and meaningful event, this video might just do it.

Question: How did that guy find heels that huge?

Newton Wins Best Soundtrack

Turns out the Singapore Short Film Awards Best Soundtrack category was meant for the overall sound – design, mix, music etc. And Newton won! Yay!

Congratulations to Ho Tzu Nyen, director, and Matthew Koh, co-sound designer, as well!

I must admit I was in complete shock when Newton was announced as winner. Really stumped. By the time I found my way to the stage, I realised for the first time that I had a problem with public speaking – I was shaking. And there were so many things I felt I should’ve mentioned in retrospect – how sound is ever so important but always neglected, that it should really be considered in pre-production and not treated as the last hope for salvation for any film, how everything sound-based is so intertwined that the location sound recordist, sound designer, sound mixer and the composer should be nominees too for the award and why everyone should hire me etc. But I didn’t. Oh well…

Dirty Bitch was the biggest winner bagging home 2 awards for Best Fiction and Best Director! Congrats Sun! And congratulations to the other winners!
